The dream box was no ordinary box.
Oh, it had six sides like most
And a flap that you could open or keep closed.
It was tan and taped
and all that you’d expect a box to be.
But that all depends on who you are,
how you look, and what you want to see.

To little Simon Silver,
the box was rather odd.
For when he climbed inside, you see,
you won’t believe what little Simon saw.
He’d close the flap and close his eyes,
and count to twenty-two.
And when he looked around again,
he’d be in someplace new.
Monday was a sailing ship,
he captained on the sea.
To far off lands with shining sands,
and dolphins swimming free.
He fought off pirates, saved a princess,
and found a treasure chest.
Then sailed back by a star-bright sky,
to the box that he loved best.
Tuesday was a rocket
on a voyage to the stars.
Through galaxies at lightning speeds,
he explored both near and far.
He swept stardust, gathered moonbeams,
and battled aliens
Then circled round the farthest sun
and returned to earth again.

Wednesday was a wagon train
he guided way out West.
Across the golden, rolling plains,
ore’ valley floor and mountain crest.
He herded cattle, captured outlaws
and rode a bucking horse.
Then he stopped a stock stampede,
and got the girl, of course.
Thursday was a submarine
exploring in the deep
He swishelled through the mysteries
the ageless sea could keep.
He saw fish and sea serpents
and sunken ships and more
Then he cruised the coral canyons
and drifted down the ocean floor.

Friday was a caravan
on camels across the burning sands.
Past pyramids with secrets hid
in mystic, magic desert lands.
He met a genie, made three wishes
took a magic carpet ride.
Then he hopped aboard a bamboo boat
and rode the Nile’s waters wide.
Saturday was a time machine
he hopped around through history.
Splashing through the tides of time
from Eden to eternity.
He saw dinosaurs, castle doors
he dined with Kubla Kahn.
Then he rode the wrinkles back through time
and landed lightly on the lawn.

Sunday was a box again.
big and brown with taped up seams.
On the lawn in Simon’s yard,
a place to lay and dream some dreams.
It’s just a box, some people say.
What else could it be?
I guess it all depends on who you are,
how you look, and what you want to see.
